I sit and look out upon all the sorrows of the world, and upon all
oppression and shame,
I hear secret convulsive sobs from young men at anguish with themselves,

Séntome a contemplar tódalas dores do mundo e toda a opresión e a vergoña,/ Escoito os convulsivos chorimicos, segredos, dos xoves en pelexa consigo mesmos, arrepentidos dos seus actos,/ (...) /Observo as humillacións e degradacións impostas polos orgullosos aos obreiros, aos pobres, aos negros;/ Todas estas cousas, tódalas vilezas e agonías sen fin séntome a contemplalas,/ A ollar, a escoitar, e permanezo mudo.
